Recipe: Pork Burgers with Apple Cabbage Slaw

Tonight, I created this recipe to play with the traditional combination of pork and applesauce.

First, if you have the time and desire, make: homemade burger buns.

Apple Cabbage Slaw
Grate two medium apples and thinly slice a little cabbage into bite-sized pieces (about a little less than a quarter of a regular sized cabbage will do).  Mix a couple tablespoons of mayo and a couple teaspoons of apple cider vinegar.

Pork Burgers
Chop a handful of parsley, half a small onion, and about two slices of stale bread to make bread crumbs. Mix with one egg and salt to taste (about 1 tsp), then combine with about a pound of ground pork.  Make small burgers and fry in a cast iron pan with oil or butter on medium heat for about 4 minutes on each side.

Assemble burgers by putting mayo on buns, add burger and top with slaw.  Yum!

  1. The slaw is awesome. The apple will turn brown, though, so sprinkling some lemon or lime juice on it first will prevent that. Or, just eat it brown.
