New York is #1 in Winter Farmers Markets

According to the USDA, New York has the most winter farmers markets in the United States. 180 markets operate here throughout the winter. California comes in second, with 153. Pennsylvania is 3rd, with 78.

Since 2010, the number of winter markets in the US has increased 38%, from 886 to 1,225. The USDA suggests that the "adoption of hoop house technology, which has enabled many smaller growers to extend their production seasons at low cost, has been a contributing factor to the growth of winter farmers markets."
