Groundswell Center highlights successes, asks for support

The Groundswell Center for Local Food and Farming highlights successes and asks for support.

This year, Groundswell:

-launched a New Farmer Training Project with support from USDA’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program

-developed a 100-hour, farm-based Sustainable Farming Certificate program that served 24 trainees, including socially and economically-disadvantaged people here

-worked with 46 other new farmer trainees through the Finger Lakes CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training), providing them with important farm organization and management insights from our Mentor Farmers.

-offered twelve students a Summer Practicum in Sustainable Farming and Local Food Systems

In 2012, Groundswell will:

-offer a winter Farm Business Planning course

-design the site plan and identify potential participants for the 2013 launch of our Farm Enterprise Incubator at EcoVillage

-continue to partner with organizations like Gardens 4 Humanity, Building Bridges, Food Justice Summit, Get Your GreenBack Tompkins, and Slow Money CNY.
