Class: Become a Master Food Preserver

Announcement from CCE-TC:

Become a Master Food Preserver
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County will be holding a Master Food Preserver training on June 28-30th in Ithaca. This is a 3-day program which goes beyond the basics of home food preservation.  It is open to anyone who wants in-depth learning of how to preserve food at home, as well as those who would like to go on and become a CCE Master Food Preserver volunteer. No prior experience in food preservation is required.

Participants will learn the science of food preservation, boiling water bath canning, pressure canning, freezing and drying foods, quick pickling, and making jam/jelly using the safest, most updated information available.

The 3-day training will be held on:

When:  Tuesday, June 28 to Thursday, June 30th, from 8:30am to 4:30pm (all 3 days)
Where:  Cornell University campus, Martha Van Rensselaer Hall
Cost:    $295 per person, includes food preservation manual and light refreshments.  (Some scholarships may be available; call for more information - ask for Carole)
Those who attend the full 3-days and choose to take the exam will receive a Certificate of Participation.  Those wishing to become a 'CCETC Master Food Preserver' will need to apply and meet additional requirements.

This is a hands-on training, so space is limited.  Please contact Carole Fisher if you are interested (607-272-2292), and feel free to pass this information on to others who may be interested.
(For those who would like to learn the basics of preserving food at home, without the need for a Master Food Preserver course, CCE-Tompkins will be offering 2 to 3-hour workshops in canning, freezing, drying, and making jam during the months of June, July, and August.  Check our website soon for dates and times.)
