Plowbreak Farm announces new CSA

Announcement from plowbreakfarm.com

Hello friends!

Looking for a cheap, easy way to get fresh vegetables this summer?

By joining Plowbreak Farm's 2012 Community Supported Agriculture program, you'll get a box bursting with produce for only $10 a week per person!

From June until November, we will have 23 weekly pickups on Thursday afternoons from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Westy, at 516 W. State Street. We also offer an all-day pickup at the farm in Mecklenburg on Mondays. For more information, visit our website at plowbreakfarm.com

In addition, we're working with friends at Understory Forest Products and One of a Kind Orchard to offer shiitake mushroom and apple shares at the same Thursday pickup downtown. You can learn more about their CSAs at workwithnaturedesign.com and oneofakindorchard.com.
While other CSAs similar to ours generally cost between $500 and $600, we're selling shares for $450, because affordable vegetables are important! The family sized share will provide for two adults and children.

This year, we're growing 100 varieties of vegetables, all of last year's favorites and more! Newcomers include Brussels sprouts, more onions, and some flowers. Here's a short taste of veggies to expect: Tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, Swiss chard, Asian Greens, carrots, kale, zucchini, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, peas, arugula, potatoes, butternut squash, corn, cucumbers, sweet peppers. The list goes on!

We use only compost, sustainable agricultural methods, and organically approved pest-controls. Nothing bad goes into our vegetables! THey are harvested the same day you take them home, so they are as fresh and nutrient-dense as possible.

Our pastured meat chickens will feed on a polyculture of plants as well as local, sustainable feed -- corn from a neighboring farm and spent grain from a local brewery. They'll be processed and ready for pickup in July and September for a discounted rate of $3 per pound for CSA members. More on that as it gets closer.

We know it may seem early to be thinking about summer protein and produce, but we encourage you to approach us if you are interested or if you have any questions. Part of the benefit of being a CSA farm is the upfront capital with which it provides us, which enables us to grow your food.

Thanks for reading, considering and supporting! Check us out at plowbreakfarm.com.

Best,

Aaron and Kara
