Pride of New York Harvest Fest to feature wine, food and beer tastings in Syracuse: Sampling event to showcase New York State products

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The third annual Pride of New York Harvest Fest will be held this fall in Syracuse to celebrate New York State wine, food and beer. Approximately 100 growers and producers from across the State will offer the public the opportunity to taste and purchase award-winning wines and beers as well as sauces and marinades, meats, cheese, ice cream, baked goods, honey and maple products, organic offerings and more.

The Syracuse event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the New York State Fairgrounds in the Horticulture Building. This year’s event will also feature live entertainment.

“The Pride of New York Harvest Fest features the best quality products grown and produced right here in New York State and reminds consumers to buy local and support area businesses,” said New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine. “The event in Syracuse has received an overwhelmingly positive response and has attracted thousands of attendees the past two years. We look forward to continuing to highlight outstanding New York State products again this year.”

Event tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Admission includes a complimentary wine or beer glass, tasting samples and an opportunity to win the “Pride of New York Basket of Bounty.” Advance sale tickets may be purchased Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New York State Fair administration building (enter gate 2), by calling 315-487-7711 or by faxing an order form, available at www.nysfair.org, to 315-487-9260. Sales in person are cash or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Tickets ordered by phone or fax are credit card only (Visa or Mastercard) and may be picked up during the event at the door. Event parking is free.

During the event, one attendee will win a “Pride of New York Basket of Bounty” featuring a large collection of New York State wine, beer, marinades, honey, maple products, baked goods and more. The products will be provided by exhibitors from across the state. Once attendees enter the Pride of New York Harvest Fest, there is no purchase necessary to enter to win, but entrants must be 21 years old to be eligible. A winner will be randomly selected on Nov. 6 at approximately 5 p.m. The winner does not have to be present to win.

“We have really enjoyed participating in Harvest Fest in the past and can’t wait to come back this year! The event is such a great opportunity for New York State to show off the high-quality foods and beverages we produce,” said Fred Matt, president and chief operating officer of F.X. Matt Brewing Company, which exhibited at the Syracuse event in 2009 and 2010 and is returning in 2011. “It is awesome to see how excited attendees are to both celebrate local businesses and educate themselves about buying local products.”

The Pride of New York Harvest Fest is organized by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets, the Pride of New York program, the Great New York State Fair, Uncork New York! (the New York Wine & Grape Foundation) and the New York State Brewers Association.

The Pride of New York Harvest Fest will also be held in Saratoga Springs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Saratoga Springs City Center.
