Care about what your kids eat at school? Parents of Belle Sherman Elementary School students do. A group of about 10 parents is working to make the school a place where it’s easy for kids to eat well and play hard. Among other activities, the group plans to recruit 5th graders to grow veggie gardens, bring their culture to lunch, and brainstorm healthy classroom snacks, rewards, and party treats, and more. They will have an informational table at the school's ice cream social on Spet. 9 at 6:30.
Billions of dollars are spent marketing junk food to kids, and 80% of foods advertised during children's TV programs are fast food and sweets. In the following video, Marion Nestle, professor at NYU, discusses the issue.
