New Market Opens at Southside Community Center Today

A new market has opened at the Southside Community Center in Ithaca.  Named the Congo Square Market, it will operate between 4:00pm and -8:00pm every Friday beginning June 12th through September 4th at the Southside Community Center, 305 South Plain Street, between Clinton and Green Street.

A fruit and vegetable stall will offer seasonal local produce, and local musicians will play tunes. Diaspora Gallery, Urban Wear, and several food stalls including smoothies, homemade empanadas, La Paladar Cuban food, and Tuckers Catering will also sell their wares.

The market represents a collaboration between Southside Community Center, Ithaca Youth Bureau's Paul Scheurs Memorial Program, and Cornell Cooperative Extension-Tompkins County's Whole Community Project.  Jhakeem Haltom, a staff member of the Paul Scheurs Program, is the market founder and manager.
