Fall Creek Garden Tour

The 2009 Fall Creek Garden Tour will take place on Sunday, June 7, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. rain or shine. Mark your calendar now for the self-guided walking tour of ten gardens in the Fall Creek neighborhood. Maps will be available at Thompson Park (N. Cayuga and Marshall Streets) between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. This year’s tour will feature a wide variety of flower and vegetable gardens for your enjoyment and inspiration. It is helpful to bring a plate and utensils. Any friends are welcome. If you’ve got time, please bring a fresh plant-based dish to pass, withholding animal-sourced foods such as honey, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, and flesh. 2nd Annual Gardener's "Pot Swap"

Are you looking for an environmentally friendly solution for disposing of the plastic containers from plants you purchased this spring? Bring your plastic nursery pots, seedling flats, plastic trays and cell packs (but no PVC!) to Cooperative Extension at 615 Willow Avenue any time during the weekend and leave them in the designated area off the parking lot near the greenhouse. You are welcome to take away as many pots as you can use! On Tuesday morning June 30, all pots and flats that remain will be trucked to Ultimate Recycling Plastics in Port Gibson (near Palmyra, NY) where they will get a new life. NOTE: Absolutely NO pots will be accepted after 9:00 a.m. on June 30th. Sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County in cooperation with Ultimate Recycled Plastics.

Learn to make homemade jam from freshly-picked local fruit. We will make strawberry jam using a reduced-sugar recipe and also a strawberry freezer jam. This is a hands-on workshop and everyone will take home a jar of jam made at the workshop. Fee: $15. Space is limited; pre-registration and pre-payment are required.
