GreenStar Community Project's
3rd ANNUAL FOOD JUSTICE SUMMIT 2013
The 3rd annual Food Justice Summit is on Saturday, September 21st at the South Side Community Center at 305 S. Plain Street located in downtown Ithaca. The Food Justice Summit is a one-day event created to bring our community together to break down cultural barriers and create food sovereignty in our community.
The street fair will encompass food vendors, including those from the Congo Square Market, music from Ki-Tun, Mbusi and The Blind Spots, educational vendors, a Jr. Iron Chef demonstration, kids activities and an inspiring keynote address from Majora Carter, founder of Sustainable South Bronx, the Bronx Environmental Stewardship Training Program, The Majora Carter Group, and a renown radio host.
What is food justice? According to Greenstar Community Projects, food justice is a transformation in our food system leading to comprehensive local food distribution, care for the whole community, stewardship for the environment, and above all else, elimination of disparities and inequities in healthy food access and nutrition education.
What does GreenStar Community Projects support?
Local food system networking events
Designed to bring together organizations and individuals in the community who work within the food system and have the resources to foster food justice and food equality in our community. These events create a common space of trust and mutual respect for all groups to foster effective collaboration efforts.
Community dinners
To bring the conversation of food justice around our dinner tables and to engage people whose voices need to be heard in defining how to achieve food justice and sustainability in our community. GreenStar Community Projects will support community members who wish to host a dinner and conversation about building trust and creating equality in our local food system.
