GreenStar Partners with Friendship Donations Network for August Promotion
Ithaca, NY. August 1, 2012
During the month of August, shoppers at GreenStar Cooperative Market will have the opportunity to donate to Friendship Donations Network (FDN) at the cash registers of both GreenStar locations. Customers can make a donation in any amount, from $1 to $100! All of the funds raised will be used to support FDN's efforts to rescue food and reduce hunger in the area. The goal is to raise $5,000, with GreenStar matching a portion of all funds raised this month.
Founded in 1988 by Sara Pines, MSW, Ph.D., Friendship Donations Network's mission is to rescue fresh nutritious food from stores and farms that would otherwise be thrown away and redistribute it to neighbors in need. This is accomplished by an extensive network of volunteers who pick up donations of mostly perishable excess and day-old food and deliver them to pantries and programs that serve in excess of 2,100 people weekly.
