Managing the Biology of a Grazing
System on Wednesday July 25, 10:00 AM -3:00 PM in Owego. Jerry Brunetti will
give attendees a view of what is going on beneath the sod of a grazing farm and
how to maximize the biologic potential for cycling nutrients which feed the
plants. This event is being organized by the "Tioga Grazers", a
grazing discussion group that has been meeting for the past 10 years. There
will also be information on how a grazing farm can use Risk Management
"Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage Policy" to protect their feed supply
from drought.

canners, learn how to can foods safely in a boiling water bath canner. You'll learn the science of food preservation and how to can
tomatoes, fruits, and other acidic foods in this hands-on class.

This documentary tells the story of small, family farms that were providing safe, healthy foods to their communities and were forced to stop. The Smith family of Meadowsweet Farm in Lodi participated in this film and they will be on hand for a post screening discussion about their battle to provide raw milk directly to consumers. Youth Fair! For a week in July
every year, 4-H youth in Tompkins County have an opportunity to share and
showcase the projects they've been working on, at an entirely youth-run event,
the 4-H Youth Fair. The public is
invited to come and see what youth in this program are doing. Highlights of Fair Week include:
livestock shows, plant science projects, entomology displays, chili cookoff,
dog obedience and agility demonstrations, public presentations, a chicken
bar-b-que, and more!

Open Days Garden Tour - Stephen
Austin Garden on Saturday August 4, 10:00 AM -4:00 PM in Collegetown. This
diverse garden oasis, or a regular city lot, is nestled into the landscape with
a timber framed pergola, terraced edible plant guilds, a constructed natural
stream, two ponds, a stone patio, and a small four-season greenhouse. Part of
the energy systems includes solar photovoltaic panels on the garden pergola
that let light shine through. In the ponds and greenhouse, food is grown using
'aquaponics'. All are part of an integrative and sustainable design system
known as permaculture. Each element performs many functions. Each important
function is supported by many elements.

Finger Lakes Cheese Trail is an organization of cheese producers from

style raw milk cheddars, cheese curd, gouda and swiss types from dairy cow
