Shiitake Mushroom Workshop - Saturday, April 28th
10:00am-1:00pm - Join Steve Sierigk for this hands-on workshop that will cover
the basics of growing Shiitake mushrooms on hardwood log. Participants will drill and fill
provided logs with Shiitake mycelium and each participant will take home a log
to grow. $15/person class

Youth Salad Farmers at the Ithaca Children’s Garden Youth
aged 3 to 10 can learn all about vegetable gardening from design to harvest!
Use the different colors, textures, and sizes of lettuce, greens, edible
flowers, and other spring veggies to design salad gardens as beautiful as they
are tasty. Lots of hands-on gardening, garden ecology, games and taste tests.
Registration includes a free ICG t-shirt. Caregivers are encouraged to stay and
explore the garden during program. Program runs on (6) Wednesdays, May 2nd -
June 13th from 3:00-4:00pm at the Ithaca Children's Garden Cass Park site. Registration:
Pre-registration is required. $60-$90 self-determined sliding scale. Limited
scholarships available by request.

First Caroline Farmers Market of the season. The Caroline
Farmers Market, located at the Brooktondale Community Center, 522 Valley Rd. in
Brooktondale, is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday from the 1st
Saturday in May (the 5th this year) through the last Saturday in October (the
27th this year). We also have a sesson in November and one in December to
coincide with local crafts fairs. The market offers vegetables and fruit in
season, meat, cheese, baked goods, personal care products, arts and crafts as

livestock production. If you want to have animals and sell pasture-raised
meats, this series of classes is for you. Learn from the experiences of other

Spring Garden Fair and Plant Sale at the NY State Armory,
1765 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, New York 14850. Cooperative Extension Master
Gardener volunteers, an estimated 40 area growers, and other garden groups offer perennials, specialty plants
and gardening advice. You will find organically grown vegetable transplants and
heirloom varieties, a huge variety of annuals, herbs and many specialty
perennials, flowering shrubs, trees, hardy roses and fruit crops. Free soil pH testing is available and
educational exhibits and information are offered. Kids can join the Ithaca Children's Garden for a fun
hands-on activity. Bring baskets,
wagons, and other containers for transporting plants.

The Finger Lakes Cheese Trail is an organization of cheese producers
from throughout the Finger Lakes who make artisan cheeses from milk produced at
their family farms. Great cheeses
are being made, ranging from English style raw milk cheddars, cheese curd,
gouda and swiss types from dairy cow milk, to blue cheeses, chevre and feta

Learn to Can series at Cooperative Extension. This 2-part
series of hands-on workshops will cover how to preserve foods safely and
reliably using two methods: boiling water bath for high acid foods, and
pressure canning for low acid foods.
$40 for the series. July 3, 2012:
Part 1 - Boiling Water Bath Canning. Learn about preserving foods safely
and how to can high-acid foods, such as tomatoes, fruits, salsa, and pickled
vegetables. This is a hands-on
workshop on boiling water bath canning in our new CCE teaching kitchen. July
10, 2012: Part 2 - Pressure
Canning. Part 2 will be a hands-on workshop in learning to use a pressure
canner to safely can low-acid foods, such as vegetables and meats. Registration
