Natural gas drilling in upstate New York has farmers divided. Some are eager for drilling to begin, hoping that development will help struggling farmers. Others fear that excessive water withdrawals; noise and truck traffic; toxic spills, radioactive waste and other wastewater treatment problems; drinking water contamination; earthquakes; and social strains brought on by transient workers could disrupt life as we know it in the Finger Lakes.
