LOCAL FOOD, FIBER & ENERGY FAIR (11/17/11)

LOCAL FOOD, FIBER & ENERGY FAIR

Mann Library at Cornell University, in collaboration with CCE-Tompkins and the Small Farms Program, will host the 3rd Annual Local Food, Fiber & Energy Fair on Thursday, November 17 from 02:00 PM - 08:30 PM. A series of lively and informative events are planned, all FREE and open to the public. This year's Fair includes the addition of a local energy theme, highlighting solutions-based efforts to strengthen community and regional capacities in sustainably meeting energy needs.   • 2:00-5:00pm  Market in Mann Lobby. A rich sampling of local food, fiber and energy products will be offered, as well as several innovative efforts to support individual, family and community health and resilience.
  • 6:30pm  FREE public screening of the movie The Greenhorns in Mann Room 160, hosted by NWAEG and Groundswell. Panel presentations and community discussions will follow, exploring some of the issues and opportunities faced by new farmers in our area, and identifying areas to work on.   • 7:15pm - Panel discussion with Violet Stone, Program Coordinator at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Small Farm Program; Dan Flerlage, Localvores Committee Coordinator at Lehman Alternative Community School and staff at the Ithaca Youth Farm Project; Devon Van Noble, Incubator Development Coordinator at the Groundswell Center for Local Food and Farming; andMelissa Madden & Garret Miller,beginning farmers from the Good Life Farm in Interlaken, NY.
  • 7:45pm - Community Conversation
